Sparked by a course record and a personal best 9-under 61 in the third round, PING Pro Daniel Chopra won the Fresh Express Classic at TPC Stonebrae near San Francisco on Sunday. It was the 16th worldwide title for S56 irons.
His 61 on Saturday featured six birdies and two eagles and had him sleeping on a 1-stroke 54-hole lead. The Bay Area’s trademark fog rolled in overnight, delaying the start of Sunday’s play, and eventually causing cancellation of the final round after a few holes. Chopra was declared the winner of his third Nationwide title. He also has two PGA Tour wins, most recently in 2008.
“I was kind of lost at the end of last year after a couple of years of painful golf,” Chopra said. “But I worked the hardest I ever have in the off-season. This is a fantastic start. Golf is a game of momentum and I’ve got some now.”
The 37-year-old Swede earned $108,000 for the win. In addition to S56 irons, Chopra plays a Rapture V2 driver, Tour-S Rustique wedges, and he was #1 in putts per GIR for the week with his Anser2 putter.
