Champions Tour rookie Kirk Triplett eagled the par-5 second hole, birdied the third, and made four more birdies, including a chip-in on the 16th, to give him a two-shot victory at the Nature Valley First Tee Open, at Pebble Beach Golf Links, in Monterey, Calif. His 6-under 66 was the low round of the day, giving him a 10 under total (70-70-66).
"To win anywhere is special," Triplett said. "But to win at Pebble Beach is extra special. To do it in my first Champions Tour try is great." He is one of only six players who have won on the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, and the Web.com Tour, where last year at age 49 he became the oldest winner in that tour’s history.
Triplett earned $255,000, and he now has four top 10s in only eight tournaments on the Champions Tour. He relied on a G20 9º driver, i20 irons (4-W), G15 17º hybrid, Tour-S 50º wedge, Eye2 58º lob wedge, and a Scottsdale Y Worry putter (36.25 inches).
